An Afternoon with Purses with Purpose

Posted by on June 12, 2015

Last week we took an opportunity to step away from our desks, enjoy a sunny afternoon and attend the 10th annual Purses with Purpose event. If you aren’t familiar with the organization, Purses with Purpose is a charity auction event primarily consisting of donated purses from which proceeds go to the Ronald McDonald House. This year the event was held at the Woodlands Club in Falmouth, Maine and included a few moments of comedy by Karen Morgan as well as a sit-down luncheon.

Some 200 people donated items, most of which were purses. But other interesting items included a catered cocktail party with gourmet hors d'oeuvres, plane tickets, and a hand-crafted clutch made for Former First Lady Mrs. Barbara Bush by designer Judith Leiber, donated by Mrs. Bush herself.

Not only were the items to bid on plentiful and eye-catching (Mackenzie and Raylene both won items in the auction!) but the money the event raises helps provide a place to stay for families whose children are receiving medical care at the Barbara Bush Children's Hospital at Maine Medical Center in Portland or Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor. The event was expected to raise upwards of $55,000.

Local News Channel 8 covered the event and you can read and see more here: http://www.wmtw.com/news/ronald-mcdonald-houses-benefits-from-falmouth-purse-sale/33405286
