Summer 2022

Cornerstone Staff Updates

Summer seems to have gone by just as quickly as it arrived, as August is already coming to a close! Here at Cornerstone, our staff have been busy, both with work and with play, over the past few months.

Many staff have been taking advantage of our summer hours and have been enjoying the beautiful New England weather. Bethany has been spending time at her family’s camp on Moosehead, making life-long memories with her boys. Mackenzie has been spending as much time as possible out on the water, boating with family and friends this summer (amongst wedding planning!) Susan has been enjoying time at the cottage during her extended August break, while Barry has been enjoying every moment of watching his daughter Olive grow and learn.

Some staff have ventured beyond New England’s bounds for national and international adventures. Sara visited the West Coast earlier this summer to celebrate a wedding, while Mackenzie and Christina attended a conference in Nevada. Kendal and Christina both traveled to Spain, separately, but managed to meet up for a tête-à-tête over a glass of wine!

Our staff have been working hard as well this summer!  Bethany and Barry have been enrolled in a lengthy and involved training program that focuses on a life-centered model of financial planning. Jill has been keeping busy as a member of the Executive Committee for the NH Collaborative Law Alliance, along with attending online trainings on topics such as Trustee-related law.

As summer winds down and we move into Fall, additional professional development opportunities are arising as well. Whitney and Danielle are gearing up for an eMoney Summit, where they will hone in on various aspects of building client visuals, developing estate plans, and economic growth opportunities. Additionally, Anna is diving into the eMoney world, via online trainings, to expand her knowledge and expertise of the platform in order to support clients further.

We hope that you and your families are taking time for both work and play (mostly play!) as summer winds down and that you are able to make memories with those who are most important to you.

B Corporation® at our Core

By now, you have likely heard the term ‘Certified B Corporation®,’ as Cornerstone Financial Planning has been a proud B Corp member since 2019.  As part of an ongoing effort to increase awareness and education around B Corps and their purpose, we have added a B Corporation page to our website. Staff have been engaging at various levels with the B Lab and NH Businesses for Social Responsibility (NHBSR) including participation in Racial Equity and Climate Action challenges and involvement with the Maine B Corps group.

In July of 2022, Cornerstone was named to the B Lab’s ‘Best for the World’ list for the second consecutive year in the category of workers. Recognition in this impact area indicates that our intentional practices    and business decisions emphasize employee health and wellbeing. Our work environment places an emphasis    on quality conditions for employees but also marks the pace and sets an example for other businesses to follow regarding compensation, benefits, job flexibility, and worker health and safety practices. Cornerstone would love to hear from you if you have ideas or sustainable practices; please share with us!

These are just a few of the ways you can lower the chances of identity theft. For more information, please reach out to your financial planner!

Calling all COI’s

We have so many wonderful professionals with whom we partner and refer to, it is hard to keep up-to-date on the many changes and happenings! Our planners would very much like a chance to reconnect in-person, and would love to have lunch with any of our professional contacts.

We want to remind all professionals that we work with that Cornerstone is accepting new clients, both Hourly and Advisory!  If you have any questions related to this item, we would be happy to discuss with you.

If you are interested in scheduling a check in meeting or lunch with any of our planners, please reach out to our Office Manager, Anna Traugh at anna@cornerstoneplanning.com to schedule.

Retirement on the Horizon

As many know by now, Cornerstone’s founders, Jill Boynton and Susan Veligor, will be retiring at the end of the 2022 calendar year.

We hope you will join us in celebrating the incredible work they have done in their careers, both in their early years before Cornerstone, and in building the company into what it is today!

Though they will not be providing Advisory or Hourly planning, Jill and Susan will still be taking on divorce clients after the first of the new year.

Transition of Ownership

In July 2022, Cornerstone Financial Planning had a transition of ownership. Jill Boynton and Susan Veligor, who founded Cornerstone in 2004, sold the business to Mackenzie Arsenault and Christina Traurig, previously Managing Directors of the company.

When Susan and Jill hired Mackenzie and Christina, they knew they had found the right women who would eventually become their successors. It was important for Jill and Susan to ensure that the ideals and values that are centric to Cornerstone would not only continue, but also expand and grow.

Mackenzie and Christina have fully embraced the transition and are excited to help Cornerstone flourish. Although there has been a change of ownership within the company, rest assured that the same excellent quality of service will continue.
